final blog

I just finished the book. I really liked the ending Harry's dad faked his death because he wanted to get out of the coke dealing business, he wanted to start a new life without using drugs. I don't know if harry will follow his father's model because he's become pretty messed up. But Alice is a different story, after Alex shows up she tells him that she's going to change, just like him, she's going to rehab like her parents have wanted her to for years and she's asked alex to be her sponsor. It was a great ending to a great book. :)

blog #5

I'm getting close to the end of the book and something miraculous happened. Alice came face to face with Harry's father and this time it wasn't some acid trip or strung out frenzy. No it was actually the real deal, Harry's father, Alex, live in the flesh. You see this is a total upset because Alex was supposed to have died, they buried him. I got too tired last night and didn't get to read anymore because i fell asleep. But I'm really excited to read more tonight.

blog #4

The last few chapters have been a little less than eventful but enticing none the less. Its been full of alot of partying and boozing, it seems that Alice is on a downward spiral and i hope something will pull her out. The other characters haven't progressed much since my last blog but i think its just mellowed out to get ready for something big. I just can't wait. Its so exciting.

Blog #3

In the past few chapters I've read of The Wrecking Ball Harry has had a hallucination while on acid of his Father and they had a good conversation. Alice has had some dreams where she talks to Charlie, Harry's dad, and she's also been hearing his voice in her head. I haven't determined why Charlie keeps popping up, but there must be some reason. Also it creeps me out just alittle bit that when he died he had Harry put his ashes into a kilo of cocaine to be sold. I can't help but think this might have something to do with the fact that harry and alice keep seeing him.

blog #2

I've read a little farther into the book so far and nothing too intense has happened yet. I've noticed that Alice feels abandoned by Harry because he never answers her calls and they don't talk much anymore. Alice has been seeing Hugo a little more and it seems like a bit of a spark, Even though she's still dating harry. This reminds me of myself with my late girlfriend. It was different because instead of feeling abandoned by her I felt overwhelmed and found myself sparking relationships with other girls often leading to a one nightstand with a different girl each time, followed by a fight with my girlfriend and a few days loaded with drinks and buds to ease the feelings of remorse for what I'd done. Just the same this happened multiple times through out the last 8 months or so of our relationship. This book reminds me a lot of my recent life. I'm really liking it.

Blog #1

The book I'm reading is called The Wrecking Ball. It follows the lives of four kids named Alice, Rose, Hugo, and Harry. The main character is Alice who is dating Harry and used to date Hugo. Rose is her best friend and hugo is still a close friend of hers. I am about 75 pages in and so far nothing very interesting has happened. It has been about a week and it mostly talks about the parties they each go to every night and the mornings when they wake up hung over from drinking and sniffing coke. At one of the parties that Alice and Harry are both at they take acid and everyone thinks they see Harry's deceased father who made millions as Britain's largest coke dealer. I think this is going to come back as an important part of the book because it couldn't have just been a halucination if everyone around saw him. Thats just not they way acid works. i am really enjoying the book so far, it is something I can relate to.

War On Terrorism

I just read an article about the government's attempts to diminish terrorist attacks on the United States otherwise known as our war on terrorism. The government has made alot of new rules in airports to reduce chances of another incident such as 9/11. the government is also working on systems to detect and prevent terrorist attacks before they can happen to save thousands of lives. I think that terrorism is very bad and its a good thing that it is being prevented.

Imperialism in Africa

Today I chose to read about British imperialism in Africa. It seems that the British are very interested in their own financial gain and this is what drives every decision they make in Africa. Britain has had several colonies in South Africa, Egypt, and anywhere that has resources. To look morally conscious they stopped the slave trade in South Africa and even the one in Zanzibar. they have done much to protect the Suaz Canal that goes through Egypt because it is a prime route to get to their colony India. In South Africa the British have exploited diamond mines since the first colonized the region long ago. article here

World population

Recently I read an article about a day called world population day that was created in 1987 when the world's population first surpassed 5 billion. The population is now climbing beyond 6.7 billion and is accompanied with decreasing water resources, food production, and many other problems that plague society. If our planet's population rate does not lower significantly soon we will need to completly strip our planet of any and all resources that it contains and then everybody will be gone. I hope that something can be done in the near future to keep our future generations living comfortably.

NASCAR Fan's Favorite Holiday

I just read an article about every rednecks favorite day of the year, the Daytona 500. This is the day when we all get to see our favorite drivers loop around the track and we can cheer our guts out. This year there's a newcomer who's only 18 years old and everyone is curious as to how he will do. Everyone needs to get used to a few people not driving anymore in this race. I hope its a good one.

Bollywood?

Today I read an article about the recent film Slum Dog Millionaire. The article talked about how the movie really isn't as much Bollywood as the British director advertises it. the movie was about an hour shorter than the average Bollywood movie and didn't include nearly as much singing and dancing. I haven't yet seen the movie but after reading this article I don't know if i'll want to. It seems sort of lame to see a poser movie. Well thats my analisis of the article.

The Culture Surrounding Glassblown Art

Recently I read an article in High Times magazine about a new book that's been published called smoked that is all about highly artistic pipes, bongs, and bubblers. This book is for people who have a higher level of respect for these pieces than the average smoker. People immersed in this culture must care about more than only getting high, for them the fun is in using and showing off their fine smoking items. i really enjoyed looking at some of the selected photos taken from the book that were featured in the magazine and i think it would be really interesting to meet one of the people who creates them.

Obama vowes to stop raids on medical marijuana facilities

I read an article about Obama's promises to stop raids preformed by the DEA on medical marijuana facilities. In states where medical marijuana has been lagalized the DEA can still raid them and confiscate all they're medicine and things because the federal law says that marijuana in any form is illegal. I think that it is stupid they are still making these raids and confiscating medicine because the feds shouldn't interfere with state laws that have been set up and followed they way they should be. President Obama needs to take up on his promises and stop these raids because things are getting crazy.

Michael Phelps has hopes for not being charged on marijuana related crimes

I recently read an article in Hightimes magazine that told me Michael Phelps will probably not be charged for the use of marijuana. Because all the police department in South Carolina has is a picture of Michael smoking a bong and him saying that he regrets things he did at the party, they do not have substantial evidence to prove he was smoking pot. I think this is fantastic because really Phelps didn't do anything that bad and it would be really dumb if the police charged him because of a picture. Michael Phelps just needs to keep on being a great swimmer and make sure nobody takes any pictures of him smoking pot.

Rastafarianism

Today i read an article about a new rasta exhibit at the Smithsonian museum in Washington DC. This exhibit is the first of its kind and sounds very interesting. This article was very interesting and was very informative about Rastafarianism. The belief is about loving the earth and the unification of peoples all over the world. Despite the common stereotype that rasta is all about smoking ganja, it really isn't at all. The only reason i used this picture of Bob Marley is because i have the poster in my room and i bought it from a rasta man in Jamaica. Rastafarianism is a very good belief system and i'd like to learn more about it.

Gender Stereotypes

I recently read an article explaining human's stereotypes of genders. All human naturally stereotype genders based on some mumbo jumbo about natural brain functions. I didn't really think the article made much sense because all the studys it talked about seemed like they were put on by monkeys. The stuff that they studied was all common knowlege put into scientific studies. I didn't like this article.

Rednecks

I have just read an article on the internet about redneck culture. Rednecks are very simple people, they enjoy NASCAR, shooting things, getting good deals such as BP's hotdogs 3 for a dollar, and just hanging out with other rednecks. I think that rednecks are fascinating and that everybody should be one. Because then everybody would be alot happier. I can not tell you how many times i see people get upset over money related problems. That is why rednecks don't care so much about money and they live a much happier more fulfilling life.

Drinking: A Love Affair

I read on article about a woman who wrote a book called drinking: a love affair. She died of alcohol related causes because she was an alcoholic. That's the problem with the disease it kills way too many people. I wish that there was no alcohol in the world because it takes many people to their deathbed. Its a horrible drug and shouldn't be used. The article was very insightful and informative about alcoholism and i would suggest it to anyone interested on the subject.

Grandma's First Blizzard

I just read a story on the internet about a person who drives to pick up his wife's grandma during a blizzard in Colorado. Once the grandma's flight gets in the blizzard has gotten pretty bad and on their drive home the freeway closes down so they almost have to spend the night in a grocery store but end up in a Red Cross shelter instead. I thought that this was a very interesting article because it sounded like a really fun adventure. It reminds me of the last time i was in Colorado and got stuck driving through a snow storm between Denver and Vail. It wasn't as bad as this storm but we had to stop and buy snow chains for my grandpa's car and it took almost 5 hours when it should have been much much shorter. The good part in the article is that the grandma got to have a nice adventure during her first trip to America. And the good part of my snowstorm is that i got to ski over 2 feet of powder on the first day of my trip.

todays inclass activity

During the activity today the trait of mine that i kept was being boss. By boss i mean cool, and i think i'm a very cool person. This is why its the trait that i kept, not everybody is as boss as me. In fact nobody is thats why its a good thing i didn't give it up.
